Brad HarmanHarman called up to the big time
    Posted: Monday April 21, 2008

The MCC Baseball Section's Brad Harman is a step closer to achieving his US Major League dream, being called up to Philadelphia's main 25-man roster to replace Jimmy Rollins, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

The 22-year-old infielder Harman was hitting .222 (12-for-54) with three doubles, one homer and three RBIs in 16 games for Reading.

This is the first time that Harman has been optioned up to the Big Leagues, and will hopefully take the field in a Phillies uniform on the main stage.

    Demons Silver Lining

MCC Under 16 State League premiersOn the verge of celebrating its 120th anniversary, the MCC baseball section has taken out the U16 State Championship.

A superb team, boasting four Victorian players and one Victorian Provincial player, the young Demons went through the season undefeated and at Cheltenham, on Sunday March 9, defeated Waverley 4-3 to become State Champions.

It is arguably the best junior team in the club’s 119-year history.

With the win – only the fourth state championship in its history – coach Greg Hondromatidis (Hondo) has become Melbourne’s most successful junior coach and the first to win two State Championships.

Many of the boys he coached to an U14 State Championship two years ago are now U16 Champions. Starting pitcher Campbell Wiggins was named most valuable player of the state final.

During the 2007-2008 season, four of Melbourne’s U16 players were selected to play for Victoria – Wiggins, Tristan Field, Alex Hondromatidis and Justin Gourlay. A fifth player, Brad Dicker, was selected for the Victorian Provincial team and also hit the winning runs for Melbourne in the grand final, with a double that brought in three runners before stealing home himself.

In a tough season for the baseball section, Melbourne’s seniors have been relegated from Division One to Division Two.

But looking to the future, the Demons have delivered three junior premierships – U16 state league, U14 metro, coached by Des Marshall, and Little League Melbourne Red, coached by David Keyhoe, in an all-Melbourne grand final played in front of a big crowd at Surrey Park.

MCC Baseball juniors win State title
    Thursday April 6, 2006

The MCC Under 14 State League Baseball team created history in March, becoming the youngest junior team in the history of MCC Baseball to win the State championship.

The team, which beat Waverley 11-3, became only the third State League Junior team at the club achieve the feat - the last being the Under 18 team back in 1986, coached by the legendary Les Arthur.

The boys in the team, coached by Greg Hondromatidis, were: Tristan Field, Campbell Wiggins, Chris Karabatsos, Harley Scheffer, Justin Gourlay, Tim Stephens, Alex Hondromatidis, Emerson Satur and Bryce Taylor.
