Croquet Christmas Lunch
December 19, 2011
We had an exceptional Christmas luncheon with our club members where over 60% of the membership was present.
It was most certainly a year to rejoice. We had teams in all four divisions of association croquet and golf croquet. It was the first time the section fielded a golf croquet team and the first time we have had representation in all four divisions of association croquet.
The section won the first. second and third civisions in association and came runner-up in the fourth division. This is truly a magnificent effort from those who have played and those who have coached our teams. We also need to thank our many referees and umpires who oversaw many of these matches.
It is also worth noting that certain members of our club participated in many events in Victoria, Australia and the world. John van der Touw came runner-up at the Golf Croquet Championship for Australia. He also represented Australia in the World Golf Croquet Championships where he came runner-up in the Plate.
Adrian Palmer, Bruce McComb and Graham Fahey won.
Our winning pennant teams included the following members:
Division 1: Bruce McComb, Patrick Moore, John van der Touw, Adrian Palmer
Division 2: Reen Hancorne, Walter Runciman (emergencies)
Division 3: Jane Waters, Sas Derham (emergencies)

MCC Association Croquet Tournament 2010
The MCC’s 2010 Association Croquet Tournament was once again a popular occasion with 46 players from 16 different clubs travelling from around Victoria to compete in the annual event.
In Division 1, Simon Watkins from Brighton CC was undefeated in his quest to take out the title. Grant Marlor (Dandenong CC), with only one loss, came runner-up, and Allan Cleland (MCC CC) finished in third place.
Don Ashton from the Sandringham CC, defeated John Grieve (Williamstown CC) in the Division 2 final, and Chas Quin from the Brunswick Croquet Club defeated Rex Cairns (Essendon CC) for the Division 3 championship.
The Division 4 final saw Sandringham CC’s Julie Adams defeat Len Twigg from Williamstown in a nail-biter. The final required several shots in extra time before Adams scored the golden hoop to become the winner.

MCC Croquet Success
Congratulations to MCC Golf Croquet Club Champion, John van der Touw, who has been selected to represent Australia in the upcoming Golf Croquet World Championships to be held in London this July.
His selection adds to Van der Touw’s long list of achievements, which include representing Victoria in the Interstate Shield, winning both the Sandringham CC Tournament and the Australia Day Golf Croquet Tournament at Cairnlea, and also coming runner-up at the Victorian Golf Croquet Championships.
August 2010
July 31 saw Peter Mitchell, Chairman of the MCC Sporting Sections, open the MCC Croquet Section season by running the first hoop. Robert Rouch, Chairman of the MCC Bowls Section was also in attendance.
Members from nine surrounding croquet clubs also joined us in celebrating our season opener. It was done in the usual manner with various people running the 11 hoops after Peter made the first hoop.
Peter Antonie, Olympic gold medallist oarsman, then pegged out for us and announced the teams for the Spring/Summer Pennant which are as follows:
Division I - John van der Touw and Patrick Moore.
Division II - Sas Derham and Bruce McComb.
Division IV Gold - Helen Worladge, Colin Harper and Xandra Macmillan.
Division IV Green – Gail Plunkett, Colin Melville and Tom Kudelka.
After the opening, which was attended by over 50 people, many stayed on to play and both Peter Mitchell and Peter Antonie managed the incredible feat in hitting a ball over another ball to make a hoop! We certainly look forward to recruiting both of them into the MCC Croquet Section.
The croquet section welcomes new members. There is a program of beginner lessons offered, after which players are able to join the section. Members of the MCC are eligible for reduced fees.
