    Pennant results - 2007

    Round 10: Week ending December 7, 2007

The MCC Second Division won the Pennant Flag! This is our FIRST Pennant Flag!

Our Second Division, captained by Sas Derham and comprising Patrick Moore and John van der Touw, played the last match of the year against Frankston at Frankston, winning two games and losing two games. On the count-back of hoops made, Frankston won.

That left the Second Division with eight wins for the year and two losses; the same as Sandringham. But on counting the number of games won and the number lost, the MCC Croquet Club came out ahead and won the Second Division Pennant Competition for this season. In addition to the players above, Graham Fahey played in three of our 10 matches.

The MCC Third Division played Essendon and lost 5–1. The team was June Holyman, John Hancorne, Judy Innes-Irons and Marg Tomlinson.

The MCC Fourth Division played Sandringham and lost 6-0. The team was Di Refshauge (captain), Ruth Firkin, Val Hunt and Jane Waters.

    Round 9: Week ending November 30, 2007

Our Second Division played Ringwood at home with the same team as last week and beat them 3–1. Patrick Moore’s handicap improved to 6 and he is now formally in the First Division.

Our Third Division had a good win against Brighton, beating them 4–2. June Holyman was captain and the team included John Hancorne, Judy Innes-Irons and Bruce McComb.

Our Fourth Division played against Essendon and lost 5–1 with Di Refshauge, Ruth Firkin, Val Hunt and Jane Waters.

    Round 8: Week ending November 23, 2007

This was not a good week for the MCC!

Our Second Division with Patrick Moore (acting Captain) and John van der Touw and Graham Fahey lost by one hoop (45-44) to Sandringham who are two points behind us in the competition.

Our Third Division lost 6–0 to Ringwood and our Fourth Division lost 6-0 also to Ringwood.

    Round 7: Week ending November 16, 2007

The MCC Second Division played Essendon at Home and won 3-1 with the same team as last week.

Our Third Division lost to Mornington/Dandenong.

Our Fourth Division had a bye.

    Round 6: Week ending November 9, 2007

The MCC Second Division played Brighton at Brighton and won 4–0. This was a significantly better performance than when we played them at home with the games on 2-2 and we won on hoops. This is the first time that Sas Derham and Patrick Moore won their doubles and Jon van der Touw reduced his handicap to 10; an excellent achievement.

The MCC Third Division had a bye.

The MCC Fourth Division played Sorrento and lost 5–1.

    Round 5: Week ending October 12, 2007

Our Second Division played Frankston at home with the same team as last week, winning 3-1. There are a total of six teams in the Second Division and we have played all teams and have not lost a match - although a couple have been close!

Division Three and Division Four did not play. They will resume play on October 31.

    Round 4: Week ending October 12, 2007

Our Second Division played Ringwood at Ringwood. It was a close match which we won 2–2 on a countback of hoops made of 58–49. The team comprised Sas Derham (captain), Patrick Moore and John van der Touw.

Our Third Division played Brighton at Brighton. Our team was the same as last week and, although we were equal on the number of games won (three games each), we scored more hoops than Brighton (43-39) and were therefore awarded the win.

Our Fourth Division, comprising the same team as last week, played Essendon and lost 2-4.

The Second Division had a narrow win against Brighton. We won both the morning games with Patrick Moore pegging out 26-6 and Sas Derham and Graham Fahey winning 20-12. In the afternoon, MCC lost both the doubles and the singles, but were ahead on hoops, thank goodness!
