THERE was hope for India for as long as MS Dhoni was still at the crease, but in the semi-final of the World Cup the Indian skipper simply gave up.

STEVE Smith’s graceful 105 off 93 in the World Cup semi-final at the SCG continued his almost unprecedented level of dominance against India.

DAVID Gallop reflects on the state of Australian soccer during a trip to Germany to see the Socceroos’ epic draw with the World Cup champions.

WELL we’ve got the great co-hosting grudge match in the final — just like in 2011, when India beat Sri Lanka — and any ANZAC brotherhood will be put aside at the MCG on Sunday.

    Geri plays 100 games
    Wednesday May 14, 2014

Congratulations to Geri Fitzgerald who on Monday became the first person to play 100 games for MCC Netball.

Geri has been a part of the club since its inception in 2011 and has continued to develop both as a player and a coach since.

Recently, Geri was awarded Most Valuable Player for her shooting prowess during the trophy match against the Hong Kong Cricket Club, leading the team to a win.

    Well done, Geri.

Congratulations MCC 5 - Division C2 runners up!
    Wednesday August 7, 2013

MCC 5 led the way holding the number one spot on the ladder for the entire autumn season.

After finishing five games clear on top of the Parkville Netball Association's C2 ladder, MCC 5 were unfortunately beaten by a stronger team, The Better Halves, in the 2013 Autumn season grand final.

Having beaten The Better Halves convincingly throughout the season and in the semi final, the tables were turned in the final.

The first quarter was close with The Better Halves taking a narrow two goal lead.

In the second quarter, MCC 5's defence comprising of Sharyn Casey, Genevieve Grant and Linden Clarke, tried to keep scores level, however turn overs towards the end of the half proved costly, giving The Better Halves an eight goal lead going into half time.

Coach Geri Fitzgerald encouraged her players to a fight back in the second half. Despite much needed goals from Zoe Nilsson and Paula Olson, The Better Halves' defence was too strong, with the Demons eventually going down 15-29.

Of the five MCC teams in Parkville Netball Association's Autumn 2013 competition, MCC 5 were the only team to win through to their grand final. MCC 4 lost in their preliminary and semi finals, while MCC 1, 2 and 3 enjoyed competitive seasons, having all been promoted to a higher level of competition this season.

Both MCC Netball's players and coaches are now looking forward to the spring season, commencing late August.

    Autumn finals series
    Thursday August 1, 2013

Two of the five MCC teams featured in the Parkville Netball Association's finals series this season, with MCC 4 and 5 fininshing in the top four of their repective divisions.

MCC 4 unfortunately were defeated by ENC 3 (23-36) in the first round of finals, however they played an excellent game and have done tremendously well this season, consistently moving upwards on the ladder to qualify for the final rounds.

MCC 5 defeated The Better Halves (21-12) in the semi-final and went straight into the grand final. However, due to the double chance that is given to the top two teams in the final rounds, MCC 5 face The Better Halves again in the grand final.

The Division 5 grand final will be played on Monday August 5. Details are below for those that would like to come along and support the team. Good luck, MCC 5!

    Thirds settle for second
    Tuesday December 10, 2012

It was a close encounter that saw the MCC’s third team miss out on the Parkville Netball Competition’s Division A5 title. MCC 3 entered the finals series on top of the ladder having won all but one game throughout the season. The only team to beat them were The Pink Bibs – their opponents in the grand final.

Despite nerves, both MCC 3 and The Pink Bibs came out firing, going goal-for-goal for the first quarter and a half. There were some great plays up the MCC’s attacking end with mid-courters Shelley Salter and Lisa Corrigan feeding the ball perfectly to goalers Rebecca Wittman and Kate Wilkinson. Unfortunately turnovers towards the end of the second quarter proved costly, giving The Pink Bibs a 5 goal lead at half-time.

Coach, Heather Dawkins, addressed the girls at the break in an attempt to inspire a second half comeback. Despite some great defensive intercepts from Katrina Horkings and Alex Perry, the girls couldn’t claw their way back from the lead they had given the Pink Bibs in the first half, eventually going down, 29 – 22.

Of the four MCC teams to make the finals this season, MCC 3 were the only team to win through to their grand final. MCC 1, 2 and 4 all lost narrowly in their elimination finals. The girls are now more determined than ever to succeed and are looking forward to the autumn season in 2013.

    MCC 2 - Division A4 Premiers

MCC Netball enjoyed a solid season with three of the five teams making it to the final rounds of the Autumn Parkville Netball Competition, completed in July 2012.

Congratulations to MCC 2 who took out the title in the A4 Section! MCC 1 and MCC 4 also performed well, with the teams reaching the preliminary final and semi-finals respectively.

The Spring Parkville Netball Competition has now commenced, with five MCC Netball teams entered.  All teams have been promoted based on their strong performance last season, a great sign that MCC is moving up the netball ranks.
