    Small-bore Rifle

Small-bore shooting uses .22 calibre target rifles, shot over 20 metres. Our range in Surrey Hills hosts shooting on Wednesday night at 8.00pm.

For details, please contact Peter Males on (03) 9836 7271 or email MCC_SBRC@yahoo.com.au.

    History
The MCC Small-bore rifle shooting started prior to 1910 for members of the Fullbore rifle section to practice with less powerful rifles. The first Small-bore rifle range was located at the MCG near the scoreboard and stables. The indoor range burnt down in 1931 and was not rebuilt.

With the threat of closure of the Williamstown range, a new Small-bore and Pistol club was established in the early 1970s in what was then the “Practice Area” of the MCG. This was shared with cricket, baseball, and other sports and users until the late 1990s when the rebuilding of the ground facilities saw the MCG resident sections looking elsewhere for practice and playing facilities.

Camberwell, as a long established range with good facilities, was amenable to MCC sharing its premises, and this arrangement continues at the present time.

    New Shooters Welcome
The MCC Smallbore rifle club welcomes new members on Wednesday evenings at 8:00pm. Club equipment are readily available as well as experienced members to introduce and instruct visitors to the sport of smallbore rifle shooting.
