THERE are three reasons why Australia captain Michael Clarke decided the World Cup final against New Zealand should be his last game of one-day cricket.

THIRTY-FOUR years ago Trevor Chappell bowled a ball that won the game, sparked an international incident and helped define the trans-Tasman rivalry.

THERE is a seven-letter word on the lips of every Kiwi ahead of Sunday’s World Cup final — and it is not necessarily winning.

BRISBANE Roar’s A-League title defence is in tatters after a 1-0 loss to top six rivals Melbourne City at AAMI Park. Re-live the game in our Match Centre.

    Women in Football Function

The Women of the MCC invites both female and male members as well as their guests to the Committee Room on Saturday July 26 to enjoy the game between Hawthorn and Sydney Swans

Lance Franklin will be returning for the first time to the MCG to play against his old team mates. With both teams having a great start to the 2014 AFL season it should be an exciting game and much to play for.

We are thrilled to confirm our guest speaker as, Dr Pippa Grange, an expert on women’s leadership in organisations.

Most recently she has investigated getting and keeping senior women in leadership roles in footy. This work was done in partnership with the Richmond Football Club, the AFL and the Australian Sports Commission.

For the last 12 years Pippa has had the good fortune to work across sport and business in Australia in the areas of culture, ethics and performance psychology. A Yorkshire woman who fell in love with Australia, Pippa’s work has evolved from ground-level conversations with athletes about finding their best and staying well, to conversations at the senior leadership table and in public forums about how we define success, or ‘winning’, what it takes to get there, and what costs we are prepared to accept when we do so.

Pippa will share her insights into what barriers hold women back and the opportunities for the future, especially with regard to senior AFL roles.

The package includes canapés on arrival, a specially selected main course and beverage package included pre-match followed by traditional half-time footy-fare. A cash bar will operate during the game.

The package also includes a reserved seat on Level 2 to watch the match.

Guests will need a visitor ticket to enter the Reserve and members should ensure they pre-purchase these through the usual purchase points.

There is a limit of two guests per member.

We look forward to seeing you in the Committee Room.
