Templeton appointed women's head coach
MCC Team of the Century wicketkeeper Robert Templeton has been appointed head coach of the fledgling MCC women’s cricket team.
The club is poised to field at least one team in the Victorian Women’s Cricket Association Premier competition next season.
It is the first time in our history that we will be represented in women’s cricket.
Templeton joined the Demons from Hamilton in 1980 and, within two seasons, had impressed enough to earn a Victorian cap in two first class matches.
Despite a useful 40 against the touring Englishmen and eight dismissals in those two games, he was dropped and returned to Premier Cricket where he established all sorts of keeping records over a 20-year career.
Templeton played in five MCC First XI premierships and, in 302 matches, effected 671 dismissals, an all-time record which is unlikely to be surpassed. He headed the season aggregates for keepers four times, twice making 10 dismissals in a match.
Templeton's hard-hitting batting late in the day provided many tiring opposition bowlers with headaches and his batting record, with two centuries, 17 half-centuries and an average of 27.32, is very respectable.
