The Melbourne Cricket Club prides itself as a warm, welcoming and inclusive club steeped in tradition.
In an effort to retain the high standards of the MCC, the Club maintains a dress code for members and their guests.The dress standards are enforced at all events in the Members’ Reserve, with Club management and staff authorised by the Committee to enforce the code. To avoid issues at entry, members should ensure that their attire, and that of their guests, is neat and appropriate to the various areas being visited within the Members' Reserve.
Additional standards of dress are required in specific areas within the Members' Reserve.
Members' Reserve
When accessing the Members’ Reserve, the minimum standard of dress is neat casual.If members and guests wish to wear a football jumper in the Reserve, it must be worn on top of clothing that meets the Members' Reserve dress standards.
Please note: Members and their guests who identify as male and are aged 15 years and over must wear a collared shirt, even if worn under a collared sweater or jacket, at all times in the Reserve. This continues to be the major reason for male members and guests being denied admission.
Hats, caps and beanies and football jumpers must be removed before entering the Jim Stynes Grill. Hats, caps, beanies and football jumpers may be worn in the Frank Grey Smith Bar.
Acceptable dress standards: Neat casual dress.
The following attire is NOT permitted
Within the Members' Reserve:- Singlet tops
- Any form of sports (running, athletic, gym or bike) shorts and sportswear (gym clothes, tracksuits, leggings, tights and tennis skirts)
- Footwear: thongs, scuffs, dilapidated footwear, gumboots, moccasins, slippers and UGG boots
- Torn, ripped or ragged clothing of any kind (including designer)
- Unclean clothing
- Beachwear, including bathing suits and board shorts
- Tops or dresses showing bare midriff
- Any clothing displaying obscene or offensive messages
Within the Jim Stynes Grill:
- Hats, caps and any other headwear (unless part of national or religious dress

Can I wear my Birkenstocks into the Reserve?
You can wear Birkenstocks and sandals into the Members Reserve.
Can I wear a football team supporter polo?
As your football team polo has a collar, you can wear this in the Members’ Reserve.
Can I wear a football team playing jumper?
Yes, but it must be worn on top of clothing that meets the Members' Reserve dress standards. Adults who identify as male must wear a collared shirt underneath.
What about hoodies?

What is the dress code for the Committee Room by Grossi?

Can I wear shorts or a skirt?"
Yes but these must be tailored, denim or dress shorts and skirts. Sports or board shorts and miniskirts are not accepted.
Long Room, Members' Dining Room, Committee Room by Grossi and John Landy Room
When visiting the Long Room, Members’ Dining Room, Committee Room by Grossi or John Landy Room on match day, a higher standard of dress is required.The dress standard is a lounge suit or tailored jacket, shirt, tie, slacks (tailored chinos are acceptable) and dress shoes, or attire of a similar high standard.
National costume and religious requirements such as a clerical collar are acceptable.
The most common instances we are seeing where members and visitors do not meet the required dress standard are those noted below:
- White sneakers
- Denim
- No ties or jackets being worn (by those 15 years and over identifying as male)
To avoid issues and embarrassment on match day, we kindly ask members and visitors are aware of the required standards and comply with them.
Acceptable dress standards: The Long Room, Members' Dining Room, Committee Room and John Landy Room.
The following attire is NOT permitted
Within the Members' Dining Room, Long Room, Committee Room by Grossi and John Landy Room:- Any form of sports shoe, trainers or sneakers
- Pulovers or cardigans (without a jacket), rugby tops and football guernseys (even if worn with a tie)
- Jeans, cargo pants, non-tailored trousers, leggings or shorts (footless tights are acceptable if a dress or skirt of appropriate length is worn over the top)
- Parkas, duffle coats, wind-breakers, tracksuit tops, golf and yachting weatherproofs, waist-length jackets (including bomber jackets), denim jackets, zippered jackets (patrons who identify as male only), anoraks and driz-a-bones
- Hats, caps and any other headwear (unless part of national or religious dress)
