MCC Squash Section chairman Peter Wright was a most deserving recipient of the prestigious Hans Ebeling Award at the MCC Sporting Sections Annual Dinner on Tuesday night.
Perpetuating the memory of one of the MCC's greatest contributors as player and administrator, the Hans Ebeling Award was introduced in 1981 to honour those who have given outstanding service to our Sporting Sections.
Peter Wright’s achievements during his 22 years as a tireless administrator and player with the MCC Squash Section – where he is a life member and multiple club champion – are worthy of this recognition.
Peter has played 668 competition matches with MCC and has also represented Australia and Victoria with huge success.
He joined the Squash Section committee in 1990, acted as match and pennant chairman (2001-2007) before becoming Section chairman in 2006, a role he still holds today.
Peter is highly regarded throughout world squash as an outstanding sporting administrator and was the Championship Director for both World Championships held in Melbourne in 1996 and 2001.
A Executive Committee Member for Squash in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, he was also the World Technical Director for Squash in the 2009 World Masters Games in Sydney.
Peter was instrumental in allowing women to play Masters Squash with the MCC, who then became one of the first clubs to introduce women players in Club Circuit Competition.
Peter has played in top level teams for 14 years at MCC Squash, and has been a member of 17 top grade MCC premiership teams.
Peter has also won numerous World, Australian, New Zealand Victorian, Interstate and MCC Club Championship Titles.
Peter has had a major part in structuring the MCC Squash Section into what it is today and it will continue to blossom under his leadership.
Well played, Peter.
