Kent notches up 8000 MCC runs

Dec 19, 2011

MCC captain-coach Andrew KentMCC captain-coach Andrew Kent passed a significant milestone in the club's cricket history on Saturday during his innings against Footscray-Edgewater.

When he had scored three, he reached 8000 First XI runs for MCC in Premier Cricket competition, becoming just the third MCC player to reach the milestone.

Kent is behind only Warren Ayres (11,154) and Warwick Armstrong (8197) on the MCC's all-time runscoring list. If his recent form continues, he should move into second spot before the end of the season.

The 30 year-old Kent debuted for the MCC in 1999/2000, having come through the MCC's junior development program and representing Victoria at under 17 and 19 levels.

He played in the First XI final in that debut season. However, the Demons went down to the Tigers at the Albert Ground, as they did again 2004/05 when we lost to the Saints at the Junction Oval.

In 2009/10, however, Kent was a member of Melbourne's premiership-winning team.

Kent has been a consistent run scorer, with 16 centuries and a top score of 173 against Northcote in the 2004/05 qualifying final.

He topped the Premier Cricket First XI aggregates in 2008/09 and 2010/11 and has been selected in the Premier Team of the Season three times - so far.
