Kent wins third club champion trophy

2010/11 MCC club champion Andrew KentCaptain-coach Andrew Kent was rewarded for an excellent season with the bat when he received his third club champion trophy at the MCC cricket presentation dinner on April 24 in the Olympic Room at the MCG.

Kent’s 803 runs at 47.24 had earlier this month also seen him named in Cricket Victoria’s Premier Cricket Team of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Fourth XI all-rounder Alistair McCooke was named best clubman, First XI paceman and Victorian Second XI representative Dan Worrall was named young cricketer of the year and veteran off-spinning all-rounder Justin Graham earnt the Players' MVP Award.

Second XI batsman Mathew Begbie's 151 in the final saw him receive the Brian Watson Memorial Award for "most outstanding performance by an MCC cricketer".

The club also paid tribute to retiring First XI batsman Simon Dart for his outstanding contribution, as well as outgoing Third XI captain John Fitzgibbon.

The Second XI and Third XI were acknowledged for their respective premiership wins, as were those adjudged "player of the finals" in each grade.

Kane Bowden was named the MCC Club XI player of the year.

The quality of the club’s home ground, Albert Cricket Ground, was also recognised, with groundsman Scott West earning the competition’s best curator award.
