THE immediate reactions were shock and sadness from across the globe as news of Phillip Hughes’ tragic death filtered through on Thursday.

AS the cricket community wrestles with what to do next after Phillip Hughes’ death, RON REED writes the first Test against India should proceed, with the result mattering less than the symbolism of playing it.

PHILLIP Hughes’ family and Australian captain Michael Clarke have delivered an emotional goodbye after the batsman tragically died from a head injury today.

AUSTRALIAN cricketer Phillip Hughes has died after being struck in the head while batting at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He was 25.

IT is doubtful whether any incident has caused more widespread grief in Australian cricket than the loss of one of the game’s most likeable characters.

Restricted members - 2013 AFL Grand Final

    Sep 23, 2013

While club rules do not provide for Restricted members’ entry to the MCC Members Reserve for AFL grand finals, the club is mindful of its responsibility to utilise the Reserve to its full capacity.

Accordingly, a limited number of entry tickets to the 2013 AFL Grand Final on September 28 between Hawthorn and Fremantle may be made available for purchase if, in management’s opinion, the granting of entry to Restricted members will not compromise the comfort and convenience of Full members.

    WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

There will be 8500 seats and 1000 standing room spaces available in the Members Reserve for Full members to access after Gate 2 opens at 8.00am.

The club will assess the early attendance of Full members on grand final morning.

If it appears likely that the Reserve will not reach capacity, a limited number of entry tickets to the Reserve to access walk-up seating will be made available to Restricted members.

An announcement as to the availability of tickets for Restricted members will be made on the club’s website, Twitter and Facebook on Saturday morning (between 10.00am and 11.00am).

IF AVAILABLE, HOW MUCH WILL TICKETS COST?

Members should be aware that the MCC pays into the gate for each members’ attendance at all AFL matches. This figure is aligned to public ticket prices.

Therefore the subsidised cost for Restricted members’ entry tickets to the grand final this year (if any are sold) will be $150 for Restricted members and $110 for Restricted Junior members.

If sold, they will be available at via the following methods:

    • At the ticket windows to the right-hand side of Gate 2
    • Ticketek website - www.ticketek.com.au
    • By phoning Ticketek on 1300 136 961.

Tickets must be collected at the Gate 2 ticket windows upon production of your valid photo ID membership card and booking number.
