MCC president in Australia Day honours

Paul SheahanMCC president Paul Sheahan has been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2014 Australia Day Honours List.

Other prominent MCC members to feature in this year's honours list included former Australian Test cricketer Colin McDonald, Cricket Victoria chairman Geoff Tamblyn and legendary Australian musician James Reyne.

Sheahan, a former MCC cricketer who played 31 Tests for Australia, was recognised "for significant service to secondary education as a teacher, and through roles with sporting, charitable and community organisations".

He served as headmaster at Melbourne Grammar School (1995-2009) principal at Geelong College (1986-1995), second master at St Peter's College, Adelaide (1984-85), housemaster at Geelong Grammar School (1979-83) and teacher at Winchester College in the United Kingdom (1967-74).

An MCC committee member since 1989, he was vice-president (2003-11) and has been president of the club for the past three years.

In the past 20 years he has served voluntarily on numerous committees of community organisations. He is presently a board member of Alfred Foundation, DrinkWise, Queen Victoria Market and Australian Cricketers' Association Player Hardship Fund.

Colin McDonald AM was recognised for "significant service to tennis as an administrator, to cricket as a player, and to the community".

He played 47 Tests (1952-61) as an opening batsman. He was an executive director at Tennis Australia (1976-87) where he played a pivotal role in the establishment of Rod Laver Arena, and was secretary of the Melbourne and Olympic Park Trust (1987-90).

McDonald was also a Melbourne City Councillor (1963-73) and chairman of the MCC Parks, Gardens and Recreation Committee (1971-73) and a commissioner of the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works (1972-73).

Geoff Tamblyn was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for "significant service to cricket". A Cricket Victoria board member since 1993, he has been chairman since 2001.

As Victorian delegate to Cricket Australia (CA) since 1997, he has been a member of several CA boards including chairman of the Audit Committee, Game Development Committee and the Financial Model Review Working Group.

Tamblyn is co-chairman of the National Indigenous Cricket Advisory Committee and been involved at committee level at St Kilda Cricket Club for 15 years.
