THE immediate reactions were shock and sadness from across the globe as news of Phillip Hughes’ tragic death filtered through on Thursday.

AS cricket wrestles with what to do next after Phillip Hughes’ death, RON REED writes the first Test should proceed with the result mattering less than the symbolism of playing.

PHILLIP Hughes’ family and Australian captain Michael Clarke have delivered an emotional goodbye after the batsman tragically died from a head injury today.

AUSTRALIAN cricketer Phillip Hughes has died after being struck in the head while batting at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He was 25.

IT is doubtful whether any incident has caused more widespread grief in Australian cricket than the loss of one of the game’s most likeable characters.

State of Origin details for MCC members

    Jul 21, 2014

State of Origin rugby league will return to the MCG for the first time since 1997 when the ground hosts the second match of the three-game series on June 17, 2015.

It will be the first time Origin has been played at the MCG in 18 years. The first rugby league Origin match at the MCG was on June 8, 1994, attracting a then record league crowd in Australia of 87,161.

As part of the club’s contractual arrangements with the National Rugby League, the normal first-in, first served walk-up access to the MCC Members Reserve will be afforded to members and their guests.

However, as has been the case for recent special events at the MCG, all categories of members (except 50-Year and Honorary Life members) will be required to pre-purchase a subsidised $25 admission fee in order to enter the Reserve.

Members will each be able to purchase up to four visitor tickets for guests (adults $95, children $65).

Reserved seats on Level 1 and 4 will be also available for members and guests (adults $10, children $5).

MCC members’ entry entitlements, reserved seats and visitor tickets will go on sale on Friday July 25, 2014 at 9.00am via Ticketek and in person at the club during business hours.

Further information, including dining arrangements and the provision of Long Room and Balcony passes, will be provided in the lead up to the event.

Rugby league stars Cam Smith, Ryan Hoffman and Billy Slater with Victorian Premier Denis Napthine on the MCG. (June 2, 2014)
