Two of the most famous cricket clubs in the world went head-to-head at Lord’s when the two MCCs – Melbourne and Marylebone Cricket Clubs – took to the field on Tuesday July 21.
Marylebone batted first and made an impressvie 7/249 off 50 overs.
After commencing their innings, unfortunately rain ended play for Melbourne with the score at 1/55 after just 12 overs. Based on the Duckworth-Lewis system, Melbourne feel short of victory by only five runs.
Notable performances for Melbourne were John Fitzgibbon (3/66) who was the major wicket taker while Matthew Brown (25 no) and Robert Cooper (20 no) made a solid start with the bat.
Marylebone's win continues the trend of previous encounters mirroring the result of the Ashes battle when Marylebone won convincingly in 2005 but came unstuck in the return match the following year at the MCG.
The score line since the commencement of these matches in 1993 is now five-three Marylebone’s way.
