Background
The Hans Ebeling Award was first introduced in 1981, named after Hans Ebeling one of the MCC’s greatest contributors as a player and administrator of the club.
The Hans Ebeling Award was introduced to honour those Section members who have given outstanding service to the club and the Sporting Sections.
Policy
There are no formal guidelines or criteria for determining eligibility for nomination or winning this award. However, the service of previous winners is set out with their photographs in the Members Dining Room and this may provide some indication of the interpretation of "outstanding" in the context of this award.
The award is made on an annual basis (depending on the nominees and there need not be an award made every year) and announced at the Sporting Sections Annual Dinner usually held in November each year.
Procedure
Each Section is requested to provide details of the service of nominees for this award on the template provided. Information provided should include reference to both playing and administrative service within the club and as well as state and national representation whether it is as a player or official.
An indication of any service with other Sections should also be made so that this may be taken into consideration. Details of service with other Sections need not be detailed (unless known) as these will be checked with the relevant section.
Each Section is requested to update the service history of those members who have been nominated but not yet successful in winning this award.
The Cricket and Sporting Sections Co-ordinator will advise when new nominations and updates should be provided, usually by the end of September each year, to enable full consideration of the various candidates prior to the dinner in November.
