RSS (Real Simple Syndication) is a simple way of collecting new content from your favourite websites.
RSS allows you to subscribe to your favourite sites, and automatically receive updates when new content is published. RSS takes the hassle out of regularly visiting your favourite site to read the latest updates. Rather, it brings the content to you via an RSS reader.
It is not a replacement to browsing but an addition, keeping you informed of the latest news and allowing you to choose what you read and when you read it.
Why would I want to use RSS?
RSS saves time. The MCC uses RSS to deliver the latest news on club activities, MCG sporting events, functions, publications and a range of other developments affecting the club and its members. So instead of browsing the MCC website, RSS automatically tells you when new items are listed in each of those areas.
If I have not used RSS before how do I get started?
The first thing you need is something called an RSS news reader. There are two main types of readers: installable desktop programs and web-based services.
There are many readers available. Different readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to take this into account. Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functionality that automatically displays RSS feeds. For more details on these, please check their websites.
