The Melbourne Cricket Club advises members and their guests who were in the MCC Members' Reserve for the Geelong vs Carlton match on Saturday July 10, may be receiving updated advice from the Victorian Department of Health on mobile telephone linked to ticket and check-in records. Please note, the Department advises that the health advice is always subject to change based on new information and investigations.
Tier 1 Primary Close Contact updates:
Some updates have been made to Primary Close Contact times and locations.Members and their guests who are considered Primary Close Contacts are required to isolate for 14 days are those:
- who attended Percy Beames Bar between 4:00pm and 4:30pm, and again between 5:20pm and 5:50pm
- who entered Gate 2 between 3:53pm and 4:06pm (Update: this has been extended by three minutes)
- who were seated in sections N40-46 on Level 2 of the MCC Members' Reserve (Update: this has been extended from previously announced sections N41-45)
- and others identified as having close contact with a confirmed case present
If you’re a Primary Close Contact, you need to immediately isolate, get tested, and quarantine for 14 days following your exposure. If there are any questions, members and their guests are requested to call the Victorian Department of Health on 1300 651 160.
Tier 2 Close Contacts requested to re-test:
Other than for the above, all other areas of the MCC Members’ Reserve remain a Tier 2 site for those who attended the Carlton v Geelong Cats match on Saturday July 10 – requiring you to isolate, get tested, and stay isolated until you have received a negative result.If you were on Level 2 of the MCC Members’ Reserve at any stage and have already had one test, the Chief Health Officer is requesting that you obtain a second test when possible following your first.
If you don’t have symptoms, you won’t be required to isolate while waiting for your second test result. But if you do have symptoms, you must isolate until a negative result is received.

Advice for patrons outside MCC Members’ Reserve on Saturday July 10:
Other patrons who attended the Carlton v Geelong Cats match on Saturday July 10 at the MCG but were not in the MCC Members' Reserve are advised to monitor for symptoms and get tested if they become unwell.Transport advice from Saturday July 10:
The Route 70 tram departing Flinders St/Swanston St at 3:46pm and arriving at the MCG at 3:53pm is a Tier 1 exposure site. So is the tram stop on Flinders St, at the corner of Swanston, for the four minutes before departure. If you were on this tram, you must immediately isolate, get a test, and quarantine for 14 days following the exposure – and contact the Department of Health at 1300 651 160. If you are unsure, contact the Department and get a test.The train after the game from Jolimont Station to Flinders St – departing 7:13pm and arriving 7:20pm – is a Tier 2 exposure site. So is the Jolimont train platform from 7:05 to 7:17pm. If you were on the train or platform in those times, immediately isolate, get a test, and stay isolated until you receive a negative result. If you are unsure, get tested.
Young and Jackson, at the corner of Flinders and Swanston St, between 2:40pm and 4:10pm on Saturday July 10, is a Tier 1 exposure site. If you attended before the game during these times, you must immediately isolate, get a test and quarantine for 14 days following the exposure.
The MCC has worked closely with the AFL in developing a COVIDSafe Event Plan for the 2021 AFL Premiership Season which was endorsed by the Victorian Government’s Department of Health. The MCG’s COVIDSafe Event Plan outlines specific measures to reduce the potential risk of COVID-19 transmission, including the sectioning of the Ground into five zones to limit patron movement and the implementation of the Victorian Government QR system for contact tracing purposes.
Extensive cleaning of the MCG takes place after each event and, out of an abundance of caution, a deep clean of the identified areas took place last week. During an event, constant touchpoint cleaning occurs and over 275 hand sanitising stations are located throughout the MCG for patron use.
The MCC is committed to protecting the on-going wellbeing of those who visit the MCG and will continue to work closely with the Department of Health on our COVIDSafe event plans for the MCG.
