Wall of Excellence - Louise Dobson

Inside Gate 2 of the Members’ Reserve sits our Wall of Excellence, showcasing our MCC athletes who have excelled at their chosen sport.

From football and cricket to netball, rowing and hockey –each week we profile a member from the Wall and celebrate their accomplishments.

Louise Dobson OAM – Hockey

A key member of the dominant Hockeyroos of the late 1990s, Louise Dobson’s international hockey career is full of team accolades and titles.

Playing 230 matches for Australia, Dobson scored 58 goals throughout her golden career. A dual-Olympian, Dobson competed at the 1996 Games in Atlanta and 2004 Games in Athens.

Coming home with the gold medal from the 1996 Olympics, the Hockeyroos followed form two years later at the Commonwealth Games, claiming the gold medal in Kuala Lumpur. The Commonwealth Games success was bookended by Champions Trophy titles in 1997 and 1999.

The Hockeyroos, without Dobson who missed the 2000 Games through injury, capped off a remarkable run by defending their Olympic title on home soil. Making her return to the team in 2001, Dobson continued on to claim another Champions Trophy (2003) and lead the team as vice-captain to the 2004 Olympics, where they finished fifth.

Dobson, along with teammate Danni Roche, were the first MCC Sporting Section representatives to win gold at an Olympic Games.
