Norm Smith Oration

The Norm Smith Oration is one of the most prestigious events on the MCC Club Functions calendar, paying tribute to the legendary Norm Smith, whilst also celebrating the great game of AFL.

The evening commences with canapes and refreshments in the Long Room before setting down to start your three-course dinner and beverage package as formalities commence in the Members' Dining Room.

Hosted by Tim Lane, the night will feature guest speakers proposing and responding to a toast to AFL, reliving their memories, experiences and love for the game.

Speakers

Peter Daicos - Toast to Football: Australian rules legend Peter Daicos is widely regarded as one of Collingwood's greatest players. Daicos played his entire 250-game career with the club from 1979 to 1993 and was affectionately known as the "Macedonian Marvel" and the "Magician". He was a two-time Best and Fairest winner in 1982 and 1988, and played a pivotal role in Collingwood's drought-breaking 1990 Premiership.

Kevin Sheedy AO - Response to Football: Football icon Kevin Sheedy AO was elevated to Legend status in the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2008. He holds the VFL/AFL record for combined games as player and coach with 929 across 47 years. Sheedy played 251 games for Richmond, winning three premierships, before coaching Essendon to four flags across a record 635-game tenure.
