About

The Military Veterans’ Group invites their members and Associate members to their first function of 2026.

Members and their guests will be treated to a two-course lunch and a four-hour beverage package.

We will hear from special guest speaker, Dr Alan Dupont AO who will be speaking on Australia’s current strategic environment, the security challenges we face and the implications for our Defence Force structure and capabilities.

Dr Alan Dupont headshot

Dr Alan Dupont AO is CEO of geopolitical risk consultancy The Cognoscenti Group and is one of Australia’s best-known strategists and commentators. He has an international reputation for his work on geopolitical risk, foreign policy, defence and national security with a particular focus on the Indo-Pacific. He has been an advisor to several Australian ministers of defence and foreign affairs and in 2013/14 he established and led the Abbott Government’s Defence White Paper team. Alan is a 1971 graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon and he served in the 4th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment as a junior officer.

Dr Dupont has received commendations for his work from the Foreign Minister of Japan and the President of Timor-Leste and was named by the Australian Financial Review as one of Australia’s leading strategists. In 2019, he was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for “distinguished service to the international community through security analysis and strategic policy development.”

Dr Dupont previously held the inaugural Michael Hintze Chair in International Security at the University of Sydney and the position of Defence and National Security Advocate for the Northern Territory government. He is Contributing National Security Editor for The Australian newspaper and a non-resident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council in Washington and the Lowy Institute in Sydney.

Members and their guests are reminded to remain silent during all function formalities. Members are responsible for ensuring their guests observe this requirement.

There will be plenty of time for conversation before and after the formal proceedings. Your cooperation ensures all attendees can hear and enjoy the presentations and that our speakers receive the attention and respect they deserve.
