In February, the MCC Foundation hosted Victoria’s Indigenous Men’s and Women’s cricket squads at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ahead of the 2026 National Indigenous Cricket Championships, which will be held this week on Yuwibara Country in Mackay, Queensland from April 14-19.

The squads gathered at the MCG to prepare the gifts they will exchange with players from other states and territories when the championships commence, a tradition that reflects the culture at the heart of the tournament.

The Victorian squads also took advantage of the MCC’s world-class indoor training facilities, using the indoor nets to sharpen their skills and prepare ahead of the national competition.

Joining the players was former NICC Victorian representative and founder of Liwik Yiyah Consulting, Alex Kerr. Having come through the NICC pathway himself, Alex knows what the championships mean and the connection it builds between players. Alex shared his own experience and mentored players on what to expect in Mackay during the tournament.

How to watch

The 2026 championships will be streamed live via Cricket Australia's YouTube with select matches broadcast on NITV, as well as Fox Cricket and Kayo Sports.

The MCC Foundation is proud to support the NICC and wishes all Victorian players the very best as they represent their state on the national stage.
