Vic quick joins MCC Premier Firsts

The Melbourne Cricket Club has signed Victorian fast bowler Cameron McClure for the upcoming Premier Cricket season, with the state-contracted cricketer arriving from Prahran.

Cam’s rise through the ranks began as a bottom-age under 19 player, earning selection in the Vic Country squad, before a call-up to the Australian under 19 World Cup squad in South Korea.

A two-year rookie contract with Victoria followed, and he has since spent four years on the full list, with one year remaining on his current contract. Cam was also previously signed with the Melbourne Stars and is aiming to earn a new BBL deal in the coming season.

Last season, across State and Premier cricket, he took 34 wickets at an average of 37.09.

Cam said the Club's history and playing pedigree were central to the move.

“The MCC is one of those clubs that everyone in Premier Cricket wants to play for. There's so much history here, and so many great players have come through the Club.”

He will reunite with several familiar faces at his new club, having played alongside Sam Harper, Campbell Kellaway and David Moody at state level.

Cam was clear on what he wants to achieve in MCC colours.

“Bringing some team success is my number one goal coming into MCC. The playing group has been strong over the last few years, and I know everyone wants to get over the hump and win a flag.

“Whenever I get the chance to play, I'll be giving it everything I've got for the Club.”

Playing for Victoria remains his immediate priority, with a Test cap for Australia the long-term ambition. In the meantime, he is looking forward to settling into life at MCC.

“I just want to enjoy my cricket, and I think MCC will allow me to do that. I'm looking forward to enjoying clubland.”
