Hockey Section claims four in grand finals feast

The Melbourne Cricket Club's Hockey Section claimed four premierships from five grand finals over the weekend, capping off an outstanding year across the Club's sporting program.

The Men's Premier League First XI headlined the results, defeating Kew Box Hill 6-3 to win Hockey Victoria's Premier League competition, the highest grade in the state. After finishing agonisingly short in last year's grand final, the side went one better to claim its second Premier League title, having also won in 2023.

On Saturday, the Men's Premier League Reserves secured a composed 1-0 win over Doncaster at the State Sport Centres in Parkville. Jason Knight scored the decisive goal, sealing a hard-fought and well-deserved premiership.

Not to be outdone, the Section's women's sides were equally impressive at Elgar Park. The Pennant C side defeated Greensborough 3-0, with Ashlea Wilson scoring twice and Molly Greaves adding the third. The Pennant D North West side backed it up with a 2-1 win over Essendon, Wilson again decisive with both goals in another match-winning display.

In the other grand final, the Men's Pennant A side fell just short of a fourth consecutive title, going down 4-2 to Doncaster.
