The Melbourne Cricket Club mourns the loss of former Vice-President and Committee Member, Daryl Jackson AO, and Hans Ebeling Award winner, Dr John Fraser.

Vale Daryl Jackson AO

Daryl joined the MCC Committee in 1993, and was subsequently elected Vice-President in 1997, serving for four years. During his tenure, he played a key role in guiding major redevelopment projects, helping the Melbourne Cricket Ground evolve into a modern, world-class stadium, while preserving its heritage.

Widely regarded as one of Australia’s most influential architects, Daryl was the founding principal of Jackson Architecture, earning national and international recognition over several decades. In 1990, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in recognition of his distinguished service to architecture.

Daryl played a leading role in the architectural design of both the Southern Stand (completed 1992) and the Northern Stand (completed 2006) redevelopment projects. Other notable projects include Marvel Stadium, County Court of Victoria and Box Hill Hospital.

MCC President Fred Oldfield paid tribute to Daryl’s contribution to the Club.

“Daryl was an outstanding member of the MCC for many years, and he will be greatly missed,” Mr Oldfield said.

“His influence at this ground cannot be overstated. His work on the Southern and Northern Stand projects ensured our stadium met the growing demands of major events and modern industry standards.

“His expertise was instrumental in ensuring the MCG remains one of the great sporting venues of the world.”

Vale Dr John Fraser

The Club is also mourning the loss of 50-Year member and Hans Ebeling Award winner, Dr John Fraser.

Dr Fraser was heavily involved with MCC Tennis as part of the Club’s Sporting Sections, following a successful international tennis career.

He made both the singles and doubles semi-finals (partnered with Rod Laver) at Wimbledon in 1962 and reached the quarterfinals of the men’s singles at the Australian Open Championships in 1963, among many other career achievements. In later decades, Dr Fraser held honorary positions across various sporting bodies.

The Club extends its sincere condolences to Daryl and John’s family, friends and colleagues during this time.
